CSA Information & Sign Up

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a food partnership that allows you to support local farmers while enjoying seasonal produce. Members buy a share of the anticipated harvest and receive produce in regular installments throughout the season. By purchasing a share ahead of time, farmers receive their financial inputs when they are preparing for the season ahead. Being part of a CSA share will connect you to your food and community like never before!

Co-OP AU BOUT DU RANG

All of our vegetable baskets are provided by Co-op au Bout du Rang. Based in Saint-Felix-de-Valois, QC, the farm was founded in 2010 by a McGill alumnus. They recently moved to a co-operative model, and produce over 160 vegetable baskets a week on top of participation in the Joliette Farmers’ Market. Don’t forget to check out their website and social media!

Our Basket Options and Pricing

PRICES FOR 2024

Imag

The prices listed here are the prices set by Co-op au Bout du Rang; the McGill Farmers’ Market does not profit from the CSA. When you sign up for the CSA, you will select a size of basket and a frequency of pick-up (either every week or every other week). This affects the price as follows:

Summer (8 weeks)

Thursday, July 4th - Thursday, August 22th [CLOSED]

  • WEEKLY PICK-UP (8 baskets)

    • Extra-small* = $128; Small = $256; Large = $368

  • BIWEEKLY PICK-UP (4 baskets)

    • Extra-small* = $64; Small = $128; Large = $184

FALL (9 weeks)

Thursday, August 29st - Thursday, October 31th (No market on Oct. 17 because of McGill’s Fall break)

  • WEEKLY PICK-UP (9 baskets)

    • Extra-small* = $144; Small = $288; Large = $414

  • BIWEEKLY PICK-UP (5 baskets)

    • Extra-small* = $80; Small = $160; Large  = $230

* We've heard your feedback about basket size and cost and are trialing a new smaller size to address this. The extra-small size will be half of a small basket. Since not all of the items in the small basket can be split in half, not all extra-small baskets will contain the same produce. We will work to make them as equal in quality and quantity as possible. If you have questions about this option, please email us at mcgillfarmersmarket@gmail.com

NEW! PAYMENT INSTALLMENT OPTION

For the first time, thanks to support from the Sustainability Projects Fund, we’re launching a payment installment option for our CSA baskets! To sign up, fill out the regular CSA registration form linked below and select the payment installment option. Our funds are limited, so we can't guarantee that we will cover all need, but we'll do our best! Send us an email with any questions.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT IN YOUR BASKET

The vegetables, herbs, or fruits in your basket will vary depending on what’s in season and the environmental conditions faced by the farm. This is an exciting opportunity to reconnect with seasonal eating! You’ll quickly realize how far food is imported and modified to arrive on our supermarket shelves. Plus, it’s a chance to experiment with new ingredients and recipes!

Coop au Bout du Rang offers these examples for basket contents (note that our “Large” size is considered “Moyen” on the farm’s website):

SMALL (8 items): 1.5 lbs of tomatoes, 2 cucumbers, 1 bunch of beets, 1 bunch of kale, 1 bunch of onions, 1 bunch of turnips, 1 bunch of radishes, 1 bunch of lettuce

LARGE (12 items): 1.5 lbs of tomatoes, 2 zucchinis, 2 cucumbers, 2 peppers, 1 case of cherry tomatoes, 1 bunch of parsley, 1 bunch of kale, 1 bunch of beets, 1 bunch of turnips, 1 bunch of radishes, 1 head of cabbage, 1 bunch of onions

*EXTRA SMALL (roughly 1/2 of small basket): .7 lbs of tomatoes, 1 cucumber, 1 bunch of beets, 1 bunch of kale, 1 bunch of onions

CSA Basket Details

DATES

Our summer season will last from Thursday, July 4 to Thursday, August 22, 2024. Our fall season will last from Thursday, August 29 to Thursday, October 31, 2024, with the exception of October 17, which is during McGill’s fall break.

PICK UP

Vegetables will be picked up between 11:30 AM - 4:30 PM on Thursdays on the McGill Downtown campus on McTavish and Sherbrooke. You will receive a weekly reminder to pick up your produce. Please note that the Market cannot provide credit for missed baskets. If you are unable to attend CSA pick-up, please have a friend or family member pick up the produce for you.

PAYMENT

Payment is required in full for the entire season in advance unless you select the payment installment option, where we’ll coordinate with you by email to set up monthly payments based on your situation! Payment can be made through the e-transfer online system. No refunds will be given.

Quality and diversity

Each week, baskets will include a diverse selection of vegetables, herbs, or fruits depending on what's in season. By registering, you commit to receiving your chosen weekly basket for the duration of the season and understand that the quantity and diversity of produce will be influenced by environmental conditions throughout the season.
